Detective Superintendent

This course is designed for staff that will perform the role of a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) following a death or other life changing event. It is intended to allow staff to develop their skills and abilities in dealing with families in a supporting and empathic role whilst supporting the aims and objectives of the investigation.

We offer a variety of FLO courses including roads policing, homicide investigations, prisons, Fire & Rescue Services, Ambulance Services or commercial organisations.

Our FLO trainers have deployed operationally as Family Liaison Officers and they designed and delivered FLO courses for the police service, prisons, NHS and also for private sector companies. Each course is tailored to meet the needs of your organisation and will be delivered in accordance with your relevant policies.

Our FLO training allows delegates to gain the knowledge and skills, ready for deployment. The course includes the role of the Family Liaison Officer, managing grief bereavement, victimology, the role of investigation team, the coroner and the inquest process and dealing with the media.

The course can include practical exercises to give the delegates an opportunity to  practice their skills in a safe environment prior to a real deployment, The scenario includes initial deployment, dealing with investigators, the importance of record keeping, viewings, sign posting support services and court proceedings. It includes understanding the role of partner agencies, such as probation service.

The course can be tailored to organisation that deal with staff deaths or similar tragic events where they need to deal with the family on behalf of their organisation. (Please note that we only offer FLO training to organisations, unfortunately we are unable to offer this training on an individual basis).
