Working together with:
A witness statement should be a witness’s account of issues and events that assist an investigation, it is one of the most important items that an investigator has to deal with.
A statement should be properly constructed, presenting the facts clearly, concisely, accurately and in a logical order. All this should be done in such a way that the defence lawyers cannot allege that the witness has been mistaken or that they have 'had words put in their mouths' by the person taking the statement.
In fact, the statement will probably have to stand up to more scrutiny than any other piece of evidence in the investigation so it has to be correct.
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge and skills to structure a statement to include admissible evidence.
Topics covered include:
The purpose of a statement and how to structure it, recording evidence.
The need to record details clearly and accurately.
The difference between evidence and hearsay evidence.
When hearsay evidence may be admissible in proceedings.
How to refer to exhibits in statements.
The rules of identification for statements.
This training is a 'must-have' for any staff members whom are required to take statements from witnesses or to write their own statements for proceedings and is delivered by experienced operational staff whom have extensive experience in delivering training to police forces, law-enforcement agencies and investigators from all sectors.
